Wordless Wednesday Diptych #1: Light
In the future this will indeed be Wordless, but I thought it deserved a bit of explanation today as we launch into our project.
Recently I’ve been hankering for a photography project — something creative, something different, and something to inspire me to stretch my photography muscles farther. I decided that a collaborative effort might be just the thing – the structure and the accountability to another person might be exactly what my creative eye needs right now.
I decided that I wanted to create diptychs with a partner. While diptychs are common in many art forms, in photography it is when two photographs are presented in juxtaposition. These photographs are typically of the same photographer, and generally related in some way – such as showing a flower from two different angles, or a picture of coffee beans next to a mug of steaming coffee.
I thought it might be interesting to come up with a different kind of diptych, one linked through abstract concept only. Why not have two photographers each come up with a photograph while using a single word as their guide, then display the results together as a diptych created from the two images.
That sounded like an incredible study on inspiration and the different ways in which we each view the world.
Now… who will skip down this path with me? Jenny Grace immediately came to mind. She’s fun, she’s smart, she’s witty, she has a unique perspective on just about anything.. and BONUS – she loves photography too. (She also has a life list plastered on her blog, which I fantasize about shamelessly copying on a regular basis.) I presented her with my idea, and she didn’t disappoint. She agreed, she came up with a great list of concept words for our project, and she suggested we use this as our take on Wordless Wednesday.
Thanks for joining us on our journey; I’m VERY excited to see what we come up with in the future. I hope you enjoy our first piece, the concept behind which is the basic driving force of photography: Light. See you next week!

Saw a link to this one missdisgrace.com, and was terribly curious. How cool is this?! I love the idea of showing one concept as envisioned by two different people, two different perspectives.
It’s most interesting to see how you both approached “light.” Well done, and great read.
